For many parents, a nursery is a place built on trust.

That sense of safety was shattered in Somerset, England, where a nursery worker has now been sentenced for a series of serious offenses against young children.
Nathan Benson, 30, was handed a 30-year prison sentence at Bristol Crown Court on March 16. The sentence includes 24 years in custody, followed by six years on probation, along with an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
A Pattern of Abuse Uncovered
Benson was convicted in February on multiple charges, including rape and sexual assault of children under 13.
He had already admitted to 13 additional offenses before the trial concluded.
The crimes took place while he was working at a nursery, involving five young victims.
What began as unease among parents and staff eventually led to closer scrutiny. A manager reviewed CCTV footage, which revealed evidence of abuse.
Police later examined hundreds of hours of recordings from 18 cameras, identifying repeated offenses over time.
Benson was arrested in February 2025, formally charged in August, and remained in custody leading up to his sentencing.

During sentencing, the judge described the harm in stark terms, pointing to the vulnerability of the children and the environment in which the crimes took place.
Prosecutors also emphasized the severity of the case, calling it among the most distressing they had encountered.
