Long before Beyoncé became part of one of music’s most influential marriages, actor Terrence Howard says their paths briefly crossed in a different way.

Speaking recently on the PBD Podcast, Howard reflected on an early moment in the singer’s career when, he claims, the two shared a connection — one that never turned into a relationship.

Instead, Howard said, he chose to pursue another member of Destiny’s Child.

For him, it’s now just a small “what if” from a long time ago.

Howard recalled meeting Beyoncé when Destiny’s Child was still rising in popularity.

The group originally featured Beyoncé alongside Kelly Rowland, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia Roberson before later lineup changes brought in Michelle Williams and briefly Farrah Franklin.

According to Howard, he had a conversation with Beyoncé at the time but ultimately shifted his attention to another member of the group, whom he described only as “the girl with the blue eyes.” He did not identify which singer he meant.

Howard suggested there was mutual attraction between him and Beyoncé during those early interactions. But whatever spark may have existed never developed into a relationship.

“It was very, very long ago,” he said.

Years later, Howard and Beyoncé shared a brief but memorable moment onstage.

At the 2005 BET Awards, Destiny’s Child performed their song Cater 2 U. During the performance, the group invited three famous men from the audience to join them.

Beyoncé was paired with Howard, while Williams brought up NBA legend Magic Johnson and Rowland was joined by rapper Nelly.

Howard remembered the playful, flirtatious tone of the segment and suggested Beyoncé’s choice of him may have been a nod to their earlier connection.

Of course, Beyoncé’s romantic story eventually unfolded in a very different direction.

She later began dating rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z. The two were friends for more than a year before their relationship turned romantic, Beyoncé once explained in an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

That friendship-first foundation became the beginning of one of entertainment’s most enduring partnerships.

The couple married in 2008 and now share three children: Blue Ivy Carter and twins Rumi Carter and Sir Carter.

Despite their global fame, they’ve largely kept their private life out of the spotlight.

Howard’s reflection isn’t meant to rewrite history — just to recall a moment from the early days of two careers that would eventually take very different paths.

The actor, known for films like Iron Man and The Best Man, has been married four times and is the father of five children.

Looking back, his story about Beyoncé reads less like a missed opportunity and more like a reminder of how unpredictable life can be — especially in the early days before anyone knows what the future holds.

Sometimes the smallest choices quietly shape the stories that come later.
